Nice - vieille ville

Eze!

Today we went to Eze! Eze is a medieval village perched on a rocky peak overlooking the Mediterranean sea. The ancient village still has the ruins of its 12th-century castle (torn down in 1706).
A Medieval fiasco was on the agenda for the day, so we jumped on the bus heading to Eze. The fiasco was supposed to be an open market, costumes, and souvenirs with medieval themes. The group (Tammy, Valerie, Sienna, Sarah, Pat, Richard, Ryan, and Jarett) all ended up taking the wrong bus! That meant if we wanted in on the festival which would include dirty people dressed in peasant clothing and fake swords, we would have to make our way up a mountain to get there (an hour and a half hike). Since it was already a bit late Tammy, Sienna, and Valerie decided to head home while the rest of the group conquered the mountain. None of us were dressed for hiking so we made due with our s a sandals, t shirts, and every day clothes. Luckily it was a cooler day so none of us were dying of heat. The view on the way up was breath taking with plenty of forestry and a wonderful view of the ocean. Upon arriving to the festival we were greeted by dirtied up peasants with what appeared to be some major dental problems. The festival had tons of discount books, clothes, and fun little trinkets. We shopped around and spent our precious euros on books, trinkets, food, post cards, and some fine french drinks.
After the money had been spent we ventured our way up to the village which is the preserved part of the old chateau. The castle was torn down but the village remains in wonderful condition with cobble stone walk ways. We saw restaurants, shops, hotels, and many people! I put up two pictures - one of the view inside the village and one that's a faraway view of the village. Overall it was a wonderful day and I really enjoyed being able to see the quaint little village.
